How to Use the Signaling Mirror

Follow these step-by-step instructions in case of an emergency:

1. Place the lanyard around your neck and hold the mirror in one hand.
2. Hold the mirror at eye level, ensuring the face is halfway between the sun and the rescuer.
3. Confirm the sun is reflecting on the mirror:
   • Hold your other hand 6-8 inches directly behind the viewfinder.
   • Look for the spot of sunlight coming through the hole and reflecting on your hand.
4. Sight the rescuer through the viewfinder:
   • Rotate the mirror until the spot of light becomes a bright round ring.
5. If no rescuer is visible, sweep the horizon line with the mirror's reflection. The signal can be seen clearly up to 10 miles.
