How to Use the Signaling Mirror
Follow these step-by-step instructions in case of an emergency:
- Place the lanyard around your neck and hold the mirror in one hand.
- Hold the mirror at eye level, ensuring the face is halfway between the sun and the rescuer.
- Confirm the sun is reflecting on the mirror:
- Hold your other hand 6-8 inches directly behind the viewfinder.
- Look for the spot of sunlight coming through the hole and reflecting on your hand.
- Sight the rescuer through the viewfinder:
- Rotate the mirror until the spot of light becomes a bright round ring.
- If no rescuer is visible, sweep the horizon line with the mirror's reflection. The signal can be seen clearly up to 10 miles.
